Beethoven and the
St Stephen’s bells

It is said that Beethoven became aware of the severity of his deafness when he saw doves taking flight while walking next to St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, as he realised he couldn't hear the bells ringing. So, I did an illustration thinking about it.

View of St. Stephen's Square with its cathedral in Vienna. Beethoven, with his back turned, is surprised to see the scattered pigeons covering the sky.
