The last days of rosewood
A full-page infographic that provides a comprehensive overview of the logging areas, timber and product flow, and the status of various endangered tree species and animals affected by the rosewood timber trade. Species like Siamese Rosewood and Burma Padauk, as well as the declining populations of animals such as the red panda, Myanmar snub-nosed monkey, and Asian elephant.
The illegal logging practices, including the use of gunmen and methamphetamines, as well as the lengthy growth period required for rosewood trees, were threatening these forests.
This backpage print was published in the South China Morning Post in August 2014.
Rough sketch idea done with colour pencil and marker.
Part of the process. I used an old Cintic Wacom at the time, which Alberto Lucas lent me at work.
