Penned in: the state of
Hong Kong’s opposition
Post tally found at least 173 activists in the opposition camp - including 108 district councillors - have been arrested for an array of offences since the anti-government protests erupted in 2019. As police warned repeatedly, they would not tolerate lawbreaking, and most were caught or charged over public order offences. But at least 63 were accused of breaching the national security law imposed just over a year ago. As police also firmly enforced social distancing measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 58 charges were slapped on opposition activists for violating the rules, mostly while protesting.
Infographic project for the South China Morning Post, featuring both print and online versions, showcasing all the pro-democracy figures in Hong Kong who were arrested after the protests.
With the collaboration of Jeffie Lam, Dennis Wong and Kakuen Kau.
